Finding that emails you remember seeing are suddenly gone can be very unsettling. Before worrying too much, know that in most cases, missing emails have not been permanently deleted — they have simply moved somewhere unexpected. This guide will help you find them.
The most common reason for a "missing" email is that it was accidentally deleted — perhaps by pressing the wrong button. Deleted emails go to the Trash folder first and stay there for a period of time before being permanently removed, which means there is a good chance it is still recoverable.
To check:
Find the Trash or Deleted Items folder in your folder list on the left side of your screen.
Scroll through the emails there and look for the one you are missing.
If you find it, right-click on it and look for an option like "Move to Inbox" or "Restore."
Email programs sometimes automatically sort incoming emails into folders based on rules, or you may have accidentally moved an email to a folder without realising it. Take a moment to click through each folder in your folder list to see if the missing email has ended up somewhere unexpected.

Spam / Junk — the email may have been incorrectly filtered
Archive — some email programs have an Archive folder where emails are stored out of the Inbox
Any custom folders you may have set up yourself
If you remember anything at all about the missing email — who sent it, a word from the subject line, or what it was about — use the search bar at the top of your email screen to look for it. The search will look through all of your folders at once, which is much faster than checking each one manually.
Type in a name, a keyword, or a topic and press Enter. If the email still exists anywhere in your account, it should appear in the results.
If another family member or trusted person has access to your email account, it is possible they may have accidentally moved or deleted emails while trying to help. It is worth asking them if they have noticed anything.
If your mailbox was full at any point, some email programs may have automatically removed older emails to make room. This is rare, but it does happen with some systems. If you have been receiving "mailbox full" warnings recently, this could be the explanation.
